FSSAI in its notification dated 24 July 2020, has issued directions extending the date for the display of “Date of Manufacturing” and Best before Date” in the case of sweets sold openly in sweet shops.
The FSSAI has extended this timeline in view of the disruptions and lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.
After receiving representations from sweets associations and stakeholders, it has decided to give a final extension to the date of enforcement for a display of “Date of Manufacturing” and “Best Before Date” for non-packaged or loose sweets on their containers/trays in various outlets meant for sale to 1 October 2020 from 1 August 2020.
The FSSAI has also advised the sweet associations to sensitize and build the capacity of their members to implement the order from 1 October 2020.
