FSSAI Direction on Allowances of Incapsulated Ferrous sulphate for Double Fortified Salt

With innovative processing techniques, encapsulated ferrous sulphate is available for use as a source of Iron and hence “encapsulated ferrous sulphate” can be allowed in double fortified salt as a source of iron.

In view, it has been decided that the salt used for the manufacture of Iron-fortified
iodized salt shall have min. 99% sodium chloride content on a dry weight basis when the nutrients are in non-encapsulated form and when in encapsulated form min. 98% sodium chloride should be used for fortification.
