FSSAI has started e-inspection of food units as physical inspection is not possible due to lockdown because of the outbreak of COVID-19. This step has been taken to avoid any delay in processing and granting of licenses or registrations.
FSSAI is focused on maintaining the continuity of its operations as food being considered an essential commodity. Any delay may lead to disruption of food services across the country.
To avoid this situation due to limited manpower, FSSAI is even emphasizing on post-license inspection instead of pre-license inspection. In only certain cases like High-risk category food FSSAI is conducting a pre-license inspection.
In e-inspection the FSSAI is granting license or registrations of food units by observing videos or images or live streaming of the food unit. Moreover, the requirement for the inspection has been kept bare minimum and FSSAI is reviewing them from time to time.
