Changes to Know in Modification of License by Existing FSSAI Licensed Manufacturers in FoSCos

The food authority has approved the proposal regarding the mapping of standardized food products with food category system for the purpose of licensing and registration of manufacturers. The documents related to finalised mapping are available on www.foscos.fssai.gov.in.

Key features of the selection based approach for standardised products while applying for a license (only for manufacturer/processors) are as:

  • In FoSCoS selection options for standardised food products are available replacing the text box approach.
  • The change is only for the manufacturer (including re-packer, re-labeller). The standardised product shall have classification as per food category system. In case not falling under a standardized product, FBO will apply under Proprietary food.
  • For category 99 it is proposed to continue the text box approach.
  • A new category 100 is created only for the purpose of licensing, where standardised products do not have a food category system mapped, will be listed.
  • Under food category 15.0 (Ready to eat savouries) and 16.0 (Prepared food) are no standardized food products, hence a manufacturer needs to take a central license under Proprietary food category.
  • Many manufacturers have licences in wrong food category or have a license for Non- standardized products as standardized products will be required to modify their license.
  • FBO’s shall be required to modify their existing license upon migrating to new system FoSCoS without any modification in fee up to 31 December 2020.
