India has been home of Street Foods. We all have enjoyed and swear by the street foods once in our lifetime but at the same time has been concerned regarding the hygiene and safety of food.
Finally, the Food Authority in India has taken cognizance in this matter and FSSAI has taken a major initiative towards the standardization of Food Vending Cart to improve the food safety and hygiene of street food vending. FSSAI has initiated “Clean Street Food Hub” initiative to address the challenges in the unorganized street food sector.
Under this, four standard cart designs are finalized to serve different requirements.
State Governments, local bodies, Municipal Corporations are asked to provide and promote these carts in the selected locality of their region as model carts. These carts can directly be procured from the empanelled manufacturers on the list of FSSAI.
Moreover, FSSAI will facilitate street food vendors for availing loans from banks and grants from the government.
Standardized cart design and prototype specifications and other terms and conditions related with procurement and distributions of these model carts are stated under Annexure A whereas proforma for procurement is laid down in Annexure B of the DO.No.01/Clean Street Food Hub/IFC/FSSAI-2018 dated 13 Jan 2020 issued by Mr. Parveen Jargar-Joint Director(RCD), FSSAI.
